I would be interested in hearing how this class goes. I tried something
similar at my hospital last year, for 6 months. We had no turn out, really.
I held the class at 9am for post partum moms. We advertised in the paper
and in our calendar, at classes and to all breastfeeding moms on our
Mother/baby unit. I had one person show up once. I even suggested people
bring their baby so that we could address any problems. There was a huge
interest in this class form the staff and our comments from our
Breastfeeding Basics class where moms always want to know about pumping when
they haven't even breastfed yet. I hope that yours goes well. Please keep
me posted by e-mailing me privately. Maybe I need to offer it in the
evening like all our other classes. I had thought that moms would want to
get out of the house with their babies n the daytime and not in the evening.
I would love to try this again if yours goes well I will!

        Subject: Advanced Breastfeeding Class

I am a Lactation Consultant and the Childbirth Ed. Coordinator at my
hospital. We have about a 95% breastfeeding rate in the hospital.
Our
primary childbirth class series includes 2 hours of "basic"
breastfeeding education. I am offering an additional class of
2 1/2 hours and am calling it an "Advanced Breastfeeding Class." My
first class (on Wednesday) has 3 people signed up - so it is a "go."
I
am planning on including pumping - how to and pump options and milk
storage; growth spurts; common problems - yeasr, plugged ducts,
        mastitis, nursing strikes; supply issues (too much, not enough);
products; pros & cons of schedules (Dr.Bucknam of Babywise is a
local
pediatrician so we got lots of Babywise questions); maternal
diet/fussy
        baby.

Any other suggestions? What are the most common questions you get?

I'm really excited about teaching this class and want to make sure
the
word gets out that it's worthwhile.

        Thanks in advance.
