A philosophy I hold to be true in my careers(many), my life, and in
bodyboarding is that there will always be another wave, another day. I, too,
have enjoyed the analogies in regard to our career and waves. Although as
someone who bodyboards daily in the ocean (except for the last 2 weeks of
brutally cold weather in Florida) for the past year, I tend to make different
analogies. Like snowflakes, waves are all different, no two alike. When you
first bodyboard, you jump at any wave. Most times your timing is off and
your miss the ride. You watch and talk to other wave-enthusiasts and learn
valuable lessons about wave-riding. Then as you get better and better, you
start to pick and choose waves, searching for the perfect wave. At the same
time you learn to ride some waves that aren't so good because you have your
technique down. As time goes along you need more challenges. You try
different boards, bigger waves, different beaches to prove to yourself that
ya know what its all about.

Sometimes when I forget the time, I spend to much time wave-riding. I'm
tired and need to get out of the water. I start falling off the board,
making dumb mistakes and realize that I need to go home. But funny I can't
stay away from the ocean for too long. It has somehow wrapped its magic
around me. Breastfeeding has that magical pull. Despite the frustrations, I
find myself out again the next day looking for that "wave." Valerie W.
