I am also an Nicu RN, IBCLC, and YES, YES, YES, HMF is a bovine-based
product. So that means that any time breastmilk is fortified with HMF,
beta-lactoglobulin (the bovine protein) is being introduced into the baby's
gut, thus, altering the pH of the gut forever!
The formula reps are so very savvy! They think they have us over a barrel,
but they don't. Pregestimil is a hydrolosate formula that is very expensive
and of course, also is bovine based protein...Anyway you look at it, it's
better to use breastmilk fortified (if needed) than Pregestimil...
So crazy!!!
