There was a study done here (and I don't have the reference handy, sorry) on
anemia in groups of immigrant children living in an urban setting.  The
researchers found that some nationalities tended to introduce ABM sooner
than the Norwegian average, and that it was precisely these babies who had
the lowest hemoglobin levels at around one year.  They related it to
premature loss of breast milk.
Again, smallish study, but nothing in it to support worries that exclusive
BF puts babies at risk for anemia.
More work is under way in other groups to look at iron status in breastfed
babies and children, results not in yet.
