The WSJ published two responses to the Unicef vs. formula industry article. One is
from Carol Bellamy, Unicef Executive Director and the other is from Dr. Michael
Latham, Professor of Internation Nutrition at Cornell Univ.

Both writers emphasized the higher risks of artificial fdg vs. the risk of HIV
transmission. I was disappointed that the issue of reducing transmission rates via
exclusive BF or pasteurization of EBM was not addressed. I was also disappointed
that there was no criticism of the formula industry. In fairness to the writers,
what you read in any editorial page letter is what is left after the editor edits
for space and "other considerations".

It will be interesting to see if this story, and in what form, gets picked up by
other media outlets. Now that the election is over, there may be some slow news
days ahead ... perfect for some biased, headline grabbing story like the "dying for
milk" story of a few years ago. Many thanks to our great Lactnet minds who did
write such well-informed and well-reasoned letters.
