Liza - We have two female (spayed) kittens from the same litter (11 weeks
old now). One of the kittens tries to nurse off the other. Her sister puts
up with it for a few minutes and then kicks her away. We also have a 2 1/2
year old adult female (who had kittens 10 weeks before we adopted her; also
spayed) and the kitten tried to nurse off her too but she would have nothing
to do with it! Our kittens know they're related and they do everything
together so yours probably know they're related as well. [We originally
were only getting one kitten but we got the sister a week later and even
after separation, they KNEW each other as soon as kitten #2 came home.] We
have one big family bed with our son and the 3 cats and when I'm nursing my
son in the early morning, the kitten decides to try to nurse off her sister!

I'm new to the list. I have a 14 week old son and I've been asked by my
local LLL to become a leader. I have to wait until he's older; in the
meantime I'm lurking on this list to educate myself further. I had a
challenging start to nursing. I had a natural birth (and I ate up until
about 4 hour before he was born and drank juice up until it was time to push
and then had ice chips - totally my call; our hospital is great!). I had
the GBS infection so I did have one round of IV antibiotics. My son caught
the GBS infection and had pneumonia. He wasn't breathing and was intubated
and air lifted to NICU at Loma Linda. I pumped for the first 5 days while
they tube fed him and once he was off assisted breathing, I nursed (on
demand) while we were at his bedside and pumped for them to bottle feed him
at night. He was in NICU for 10 days. I had a GREAT LC help me at Loma
Linda and it wasn't much work to get him nursing. Now, he's a happy &
healthy 20 lbs (solid, not fat). I just thought I'd let you know my story.
I'll go back to lurk-mode now.

Thanks for letting me read & learn. I just HAD to comment about the cats!
