Would appreciate input on the following case of severe diaper rash: saw 3
1/2 week, male infant yesterday with burn-like rash on his buttock; dark red
in color with line of peeling skin on outer edges of both buttock, flat
wlithout raised areas (really resembles 2nd degree burn), no evidence of
"rash" near anus or genitals. Diagnosed by Ped, whom I haven't been able to
reach yet, as possible infant dairy allergy and tx with silver nitrate cream
being used 3x/day with zinc ointment rest of the time. Mom and baby have no
visible signs of thrush; nipples painful, seems due to latch, skin intact and
normal color. Infant recevied ABM several times in hospital due to jaundice
and once throughout night when not brought to mom as instructed.

I've not seen a rash like this before and am wondering about cause. Could
this be allergy induced? thrush (doesn't look typical of yeast rash)? Mom
says rash is better than it was and she's been off dairy for a week. Baby
also has extensive pimple-like rash on face extending with a few pimples on
front of scalp-more than "baby acne?" Trunk clear.

Your input is appreciated and no, Linda, I didn't take a photo of this, darn!
