We know that working with a mother with a baby with a cleft requires team
work - mother, surgeon, therapist, LC.... We have had very little success
here because it seems the Speech Therapists and surgeons do not consider
breastfeeding an option and tend to insist that mother uses various types of
bottle and nipple according to the circumstance or the therapist's
preference. As a result, I do not have much experience in this area, but I
have accessed a few babies, a couple of which I feel certain would have been
able to breastfeed adequately - until the therapist insisted on a certain
bottle.
Today, a young therapist contacted me. She is well informed re
breastfeeding and very keen to learn about bf and clefts. I have some info
here to put together for her, but was wondering if anyone knows of websites
or therapist forums she could contact? She knows it will be a challenge to
change the mindset of her older colleagues and needs all the support she can
get TIA..
