I don't think of finger feeding as avoiding nipple confusion in babies. I
think of it as potentially avoiding nipple confusion in parents. It is not my
supplemental method of preference--the SNS usually is, but I am glad to have
every possible tool available. But a lot comes into play, including whether
we need to just get the baby sucking for a moment, whether we need to do some
suck training, what the family is willing to do and what they perceive as
"too much", cultural views about finger feeding, mother's committment to bf
and so on.
