>well WHO is for third world countries
ARGGGGGHHH!!!!! It's the WORLD Health Organization, not the "THIRD WORLD"
Health Organization. The WHO recommendations are for ALL CHILDREN,
EVERYWHERE -- since 1979, the WORLD Health Organization has recommended that
ALL CHILDREN EVERYWHERE get breast milk for a minimum of two years. Why do
people think that the WHO only applies to Third World countries????
>" . . . and AAP used to say six months and when they changed it my
>colleagues and I all joked who has the time?"
Tell this pediatrician that the AAP *never* said that babies should wean at
six months, and they don't now say that babies should be weaned at 12
months. They used to say that you could switch to whole cow's milk at 6
months, and now they say you can switch at 12 months. They have never said
the baby should be weaned by a certain age. NEVER. She should be ashamed
of her ignorance.
I continued to be amazed at the number of people -- physicians, neighbors,
co-workers, etc. etc. etc. -- who think that human children don't need human
milk, but they still need the milk of another species. If they don't need
human milk, then they don't need cow's milk either. We aren't growing
calves here folks. Forgive the rant, I know I'm preaching to the choir.
