Hi All!
I am seeking your perspective to add to the information this mother got from
her peditritian and pediatric GI specialist. Mother called LC office in
hopes of
finding a way to continue breastfeeding her 7 week old baby. Let me give you
the history, (with momıs permission).
9 # Boy Born:
-Dec. 16, 2000, breastfeeding going well, baby gaining as expected.
BABY-Jan 20, 2001, mucus with strand of blood in diaper. Color of stools
is green with the strands, sometimes bright red or maroon. Has gone up to
2-4 days with none Since first noticed, has had total of 12 stools with the
strands. In other words, not present in all stools or even every day. NOT
fussy, acts just fine.
MOM-Jan 22, Mother stopped ALL dairy and dairy products, oops, the veggie
burger had ?? in that group, but basically 99% eliminated.
Pedi GI--³Classic cows milk allergy symptoms.² ³Quit breastfeeding³ Feed
Alimentum. (started this day before yesterday) Mom pumping, hoping WE/ALL of
YOU can help find solution.
Pedi--Pump for 4 months, then when baby is 6 months old you might be able to
try again.
I have tried to make this as clear as I can. Mom also said that she was told
there is a test that can be done to verify the cows milk allergy, but
because the symptoms (stools) are so classic, no test was done.
Have recommended, SAVE the expressed milk. SHE wants to breastfeed!!!!!!!!!!
I think Iım gonna learn a lot from this too.
Am off to do a lit search as well. Thanks in advance!
