Dear Friends on Lactnet,
Didn't write to upset anyone, just define my role as an RN/IBCLC....in the
hospital I work at we have an outpatient center that operates independently
of the women' services. Because we want to provide a comprehensive setting
for our breastfeeding mother's, we can and often do take telephone/verbal
orders for labwork, referrals, admission to inpatient, etc. This is our
role, we are nurse lactation consultants. I am not trying to upset anyone,
just clarify how different each person's situation is. All LC's should be
paid by the service they provide and I know that is not always the case. My
discussion was not salary, just the role, or service and how the employer
might approach this topic.
Sorry to ruffle feathers,
Laura Burnett RN, IBCLC
Fort Worth, Texas
