A mom who consulted with me today showed me a clear silicone (I think)
nipple that I had never seen or heard of before. She got it from the White
River company that had UPS'd her a pump (baby not latching).
I don't know if I could describe this nipple but I'll try. If you can
imagine a clear silicone nipple that has an extension of silicone ring past
the part of nipple with the hole in it. She had a little milk in the bottle,
when I tried to "chomp" my fingers on it like I show parents or nurses (and
milk squirts out quickly), nothing came out. So it looks to me that if baby
takes just the tip of this, he wont get any milk (unlike most artificial
nipples). I guess baby must take it deep in his mouth and actually work at it
to get the milk.
At 4 weeks of age, this mom went from exclusive bottlefeeding EBM with
another nipple to this nipple and in about 3 days had baby exclusively on
breast. Except for a shallow latch which I was able to help her correct,
they're going great.
Has anyone seen this nipple or had experience with it?
