This is a dilemma in that we don't want to call it something that somehow
implies our consent or approval; however, we also don't want to call it
something that sounds too militant. Personally, I have been saying
"artificial baby milk", but I think that term is offensive to moms who use
it on occasion or when returning to work, etc. - you can see it in their
body language. I love the idea of "modified cow's milk", but many formulas
are not cow's milk at all (soy, goat milk) or are more specialized due to
medical concerns (you know, those ones that cost 2x more than average and
cause the parents to think their babies are getting something so much better
than regular formula). I think we need a term that includes all the
different formulations out there, so "cow" or "bovine" isn't sufficient.
How about simply calling it "store-bought baby milk", or "laboratory milk",
or even saying "real breastmilk" when talking about the real thing, and
"imitation milk" when discussing the other stuff (come to thing of it, I
like that best!).
