Which brings to mind three critical issues:

1) Weaning needs to be *her* decision, based on full information of pros and
cons.

2) One of the cons of which she needs to be aware is what's involved in
rearing a less healthy, less easily soothed child (while she has weakness on
one side, no less). Her choices here aren't breastfeeding vs being
childless,
her choices are parenting a bf'd child vs parenting a formula-fed child.

3) The gray area is plenty large, allowing for nursing days but not nights,
or nursing only every other feed, or nursing only when she feels up to it,
or nursing just a couple times a day, or nursing nights but not days, all of
which rely on some other milk filling in wherever she needs it to, all of
which allow her to continue her nursing relationship. Sounds to me as if
her doctors think it *has* to be an all or nothing affair.
