How could we teach our young
people to trust their bodies in the beginning, I wonder?"
Well said, Vicky.
We can teach them to trust their bodies by trusting our bodies and their
bodies ourselves. Just one of the reasons breastfeeding is important is
that it helps mothers and babies be in tune with each other and their
bodies, to respond immediately and empathically to needs. Trusting
bodies is part of being mindful of the interconnectness of physical,
emotional, intellectual and spiritual needs. It is diametrically opposed
to the idea of scheduling, behaviour modification, sleep-training,
tough love and all those other trends we've put the last few generations
of babies through.
