I think there were some good points made about the baby Helen posted.
In addition I'd like to add that parents can become to fixated about infants stooling and need some help understanding what is normal. Too often they see what they interpret as the baby stuggeling to pas a stool and rush to intervene. I agree the thermometer needs to go.
After checking latch and fore milk/hind milk then eliminating some common allergens eg cow's milk from mom's diet is probably worth a try but I personally dont go to extremes about this. I think there is risk of indirectly blaming mom this way.
This baby may well have colic and need supportive care such as frequent nursing and holding/carrying. Mom and dad may need to try some different rocking/carrying methods to see what works. My second, Connor, aka Fuss Monster loved being in the sling while I picked strawberries. (Now how would I get the idea to try that <g>)
The LLL meeting and other moms to talk to is a great idea.
