Jennifer, I really agree with you about the importance of letting mothers
know that the behaviour of babies born after labour medication is not
normal!! When pregnant women come to our breastfeeding group, I make an
effort to make sure they hear about how epidurals can affect their babies
(poorer sucking) and also how the IV given with an epidural tends to
increase engorgement. They probably won't hear this information from anyone
else, but I think it is essential to making an informed choice.
