Several people have commented or asked about my use of peppermint tea as an
anti-galactogogue. It really was experimental; I have not tried it before,
but I have heard and read of its reputation many times, and this mom
happened to have it on hand as she usually loved drinking it. (Early in
lactation I had recommended she not drink it) Furthermore, it otherwise
seems to be innocuous; not even Ruth Lawrence had a problem with it, though
I'm not sure she is aware of the anti-galactogogue reputation.
As for the mom's feedback, she feels that it helped and that she now needs
one cup a day to keep things under control. I must tell you all, however,
that we had also instituted a couple of other changes at the same time, both
of which may or may not have contributed to the settling down of her supply.
I really cannot say for sure that it was effective in and of itself, only
that it is this mother's perception that it was effective.
