We have discussed the availability of domperidone on this list many
times. The usual sources are Murray Shore Pharmacy in Canada, and a
Mexican pharmacy whose number is in the archives many times.
I ordered a one month supply for a patient last week, which sold for $86.00
US
I requested overnight shipment via FED EX. The fee for that
service was $40.00 !!!
When the medication arrived, I picked it up at the FED EX office and they
told me that the merchant's actual cost had been $16.00
Needless to say, I feel that being charged 50% for shipping and handling on
a packet that weighed less than an ounce and was simply picked up at the
pharmacy like any other shipment has me feeling quite steamed!
Now, this was my decision and I'll live with it, but I wanted to warn the
rest of you to be wary in the future. If you don't have the time to wait
on the usual 5-7 day delivery quoted, you are likely to be severely gouged!
No lectures on the wisdom of getting the medication myself as opposed to
letting the patient getting it herself, I know how far out on a limb I climbed
and I certainly don't recommend anyone else do what I did. This was a
"freebie" due to the mom's circumstances, and she was sabotaged by her doc who
but her on "the pill" telling her it was her best choice for birth control
because her husband doesn't care for condoms and she didn't have $400.00 for an
IUD! What happened to diaphragms? Oh well. By the way, baby is
nearly 6 months old, had been nursing beautifully, then mom's milk began drying
up mysteriously about 7 weeks ago. She was down to nursing only twice
daily, much to her disappointment. Her history revealed the likely
culprit. She was so discouraged and shocked that her doctor was telling
her that the pill was "great" to use while nursing. I explained that he
likely meant safe and was ignorant of what it could do to her milk supply.
I'm sure that she and baby will be fine in short order, but I just hate
(like all of us) when these things happen, especially to the women who are the
least able to help themselves. :(
