I attended Marsha Walker, RN, IBCLC's lively session at the July 2000 ILCA
Conference on "Supplementation: Medical and Legal Issues." I scribbled a
note in my margin that "a newborn's physiologic stomach capacity is approx.
7 cc's." Marsha also said that "a baby's *anatomical* capacity may be
greater, but we don't want baby to eat Thanksgiving Dinner at every meal"
[meaning we don't want baby to gorge to excess with each feeding -- as
Americans love to do at their annual Thanksgiving Day dinners]. Sadly, I
did not jot down a reference for the 7 cc -- which Marsha no doubt supplied
at the time.
