Surely this "pull the baby out, its better for bonding" is just yet another
sop to try to convince us that the number of c-sections being done is
acceptable and that it isn't a very unnatural process. Bonding would IMHO
be better served by trying to bring the c-section rate down and for those
who really need it by facilitating skin to skin contact in theatre
post-delivery and not removing the baby and sending it off with dad to be
weighed, measured & dressed and then left screaming for mum until she comes
back from theatres. This is standard practice in many hospitals here.
Women are also constantly told how difficult it is to breastfeed after a
section and I don't know how helpful that is, its like setting them up to
expect to fail.
