Not very often at all, but yes. Since the placenta in a C-Section is
manually removed immediately after the delivery, it hasn't had a chance to
"release" naturally. If the placenta is not examined carefully, a small
fragment can be left behind.
The clue (other than a milk supply that can't seem to come in) of course,
will be the continued discharge of lochia rubra beyond 10-12 days.
