I'm proud to say that the W.milker is a NZ invention .... based on dairy cow
technology!
It was designed so that prem babies could get bm, and I think Walter
Whittlestone was a dairying engineer. He was known as Wally and one of his
quotes was " bf is an integral part of a woman's love life".
The pump has a soft foam flange and one of our LLL leaders who has tried it
said it was almost like a baby's suckle, very gentle and encouraging of the MER.
The first LLL leader in NZ, Yvonne Foreman, whose husband owned a large
plastics company, has been instrumental in getting another company in the US
to start production there, and there has been publicity about that here of late.
It has been used in it's original, rather cumbersome form in maternity
hospitals until recently, and is regarded as better than some of the more
modern pumps in its pulsatile action.

Re cholesterol - very interesting thread - my husbands family have a hx of
elevated cholesterol problems, with one sister needing bypass surgery at age
32, large deposits of c. in her hands, 2 sisters on "statin" drugs. We were
advised to have our children tested at about age 6, whcih has just happened
to out son.
His cholesterol was normal, but I wonder how the values for kids are gathered?
And my dr suggested I have mine checked at the same time ... I am 35 and
have a famhx of CHD, am nursing our 8 mo old. Mine was excellant - great
ratios etc, (will keep up the red wine and olive oil) - but again, are there
studies on lactation and cholesterol?

Continually amazed at this web of infromation and heartened again by the
numbers of bf "fanatics" world wide ... pity I have to do other things than
read e-mail!!
