The mom might want to replace the ring temporarily with a plastic ''bar''. These
are for sale in erotica shops and can be sterilized. (No, I do not want to know
what is done with these things in the primary context that needs sterilizing
them...) They are quite easily removed and placed back.
If the wound is healed well after piercing there is no added hazard for
infection. If a sterilizable piece is used I suppose the antibacterial
properties will keep the milk save for the bay. Feeding ABM would add far more
hazards I guess.
