The problem with selling things is that a profession's reputation becomes
one of making money, not consumer help. Just as Barbara mentioned. People
know when they are getting a hard or unnecessary sell. It rattles my chain
that I constantly have to caution moms not to fall into the trap of a hard
sale when they are calling around looking for a rental pump. Or, I hear
complaints from mothers about someone they called to rent a pump from and
what was (unnecesarily) suggested the mom purchase.

Also, women are often under stress in the hospital setting and I think the
idea of having the hospital trying to sell devices or things to these women
could back fire. This may come across as a negative thing as most moms just
want to be left alone to recover from child birth and bond with their
babies. Having the items in the gift shop seems more appropriate to me,
rather than a cart that it taken into the hospital rooms and offered that
way. Moms can come back to the gift shop at a later date if they want
something and it isn't as intrusive as going into their hospital room.
