OK, I can't refrain from throwing in my experience when I had a research position at Childrens Hospital Los Angeles where I got to milk a rat.

Yes, I did it manually (actually 2-fingered)(or digital expression? - is this the wave of the future - digital/online milk expression?)(I really must finish my thesis!!). 

And the queen (?) had to have general anesthesia (actually, it was I who needed her to have the general) else she would have bitten, I was told, being very protective of her milk, as it were.

From her 6 teats, we got 1/4 teaspoon total as I recall. That's a Buff supply for a rat!!
