Diane: regarding policies for babies who will not nurse after birth. Our
hospital waits 24 hours before offering alternative methods to feed if
the baby has not yet latched. We offer the breast within the first hour,
if baby will not eat, we encourage skin to skin, and offering breast
with feeding cues/ and every 3 hours.Unfortunately many hospitals are
dealing with high epidural rates, inductions, etc. that do interfere
with baby's interest in nursing. Good luck in working for change as
needed. It takes time and patience.
