Pat Sergi-Swinehart has a deep comment on the similarities between birth and
death. When my second child was born, we had a wise German women living up
the street who was a follower of Elizabeth Kubler-Ross and served as a sort
of "doula" for dying people. But she went to a birth now and then because
she felt there was a connection with her work.
Of course, a baby who is born has been physically and mentally alive for a
long time already, whereas the person who dies is undergoing a much more
radical change, whatever it is---and that's a topic for another list.
