See PubMed Citation PMID# 10498059 titled Sex hormones and the female voice:
It explains hormonal biochemistry and vocal physiology as seen in 197 women.
It discusses features of PREMENSTRUAL VOCAL SYNDROME starting some 4-5 days
before menstruation including congestion, microvarices, edema of the
posterior 1/2 of the vocal folds and a loss of vibratory amplitude. It also
discusses MENOPAUSAL VOCAL SYNDROME. It further discusses multi-factorial
therapy of hormone replacement and multi-vitamins. SOUNDS like edema and
hormone changes during pregnancy and/or lactation could give similar outcomes.
