Sorry, I think I would argue with it... Not that loving parents are
important, only that they are the *most* important thing. I know lots of
loving single mothers and I myself divorced partly to be a happy loving
mother (and to parent as I needed to).
To me, the most important thing is that a child grow up in a home where
s/he is truly loved, unconditionally. Ideally, of course, by a
breastfeeding mother. But by a grandparent, a single dad, a sibling, a
foster mother... often fine too.
I get really impatient with this notion that it takes three to
breastfeed, or that the couple comes before the mother-child
relationship. I know we've discussed it here before, but I have trouble
accepting the idea that fathers feel they need to be in competition with
a baby this way. I find that this attitude really gets in the way of a
breastfeeding-friendly culture.
