Since Susan in Australia has started this one, I'll disclose the way I let
mothers know my attitude to painful feedings. I say pain is a sign that
something is wrong, and that BF is supposed to resemble how we make babies
rather than giving birth to them-- you don't have to give birth very often;
BF is supposed to be so comfortable that you want to do it many times every
day, for months or years on end.
(When I think about it, the frequency pattern for BF couples does bear some
resemblance to the newly smitten-in-love. Obsessed at first, and later able
to do it while one partner eats, sleeps, reads a magazine, plays or talks on
the phone. Can't quite see how weaning compares to the other, though...
let's just not go there! Important disclaimer: know your audience WELL
before attempting to include this in teaching... I haven't tried it myself
and accept no liability for injuries to LCs arising from such sessions.)
cheers
