Fellow Lactnetters-
I have been gone the better part of the week at a wonderful conference in
North Carolina sponsored by Wake AHEC- for those of you looking for a good
excuse to visit NC- next year it will be mid October (beautiful). The keynote
speaker was Dr. LowDog and I have to say her presentation on Herbals and
breastfeeding was great! It was a taped address so you might be able to
purchase the tapes from Wake AHEC. Her knowledge of both the standard
American medicines and the use of herbals is well balanced in theory. If you
have an opportunity to hear her message do so- she does use fenugreek,
blessed thistle and a host of other natural methods for treating her
patients. As one who grew up in a family that relied on the suggestions for
nutritional healing from the back of my grandmother and greatgrandmothers
cookbooks, and having read some of my grandmas diary entries on how she used
foods to overcome ailments I think that we should consider using any measures
that don't provide a clear and present danger. Just some (excuse the pun)
"food for thought". Gloria DeHaven BSN, IBCLC
