Interesting that heated, cooked oats (such as porridge) stops diarrhea.
So does cooked brown rice. Just cook it with double the amount of
water for the same length of time. Pour off the excess water sitting
on the top of the rice into a cup, let it cool somewhat and drink by
sipping. If let to cool naturally, it will become glutinous, hence
the name glutinous rice.

Diarrhea can also be stopped with a Chinese medicine moxibustion
treatment right to the navel when the navel has salt put in it to
hold the heat. It is also very soothing. I consider this an
adult treatment as I don't know of a child who'd lie still long
enough for the to be done safely. I had this done with a chronic
gut infection from a parasite. It worked really well.

Also interesting from a Gastro page is that someone with colitis and
chronic diarrhea posted an anecdote regarding himself: by eating two
coconut macaroons daily, it put a stop to his own loose, watery
diarrhea stools. I passed that one on to a cousin with colitis.

Another fact regarding mastitis is that it is the presenting symptom
of a parasitic infestation, klebsiella pneumoniae, that one can get from
an infected dog's feces. I had it for over a year ten years ago and
lost 1/3 of my body weight. My muscle mass was used for fuel as quick
transit time gave me malabsorption syndrome in the small bowel.

Speaking to a dog owner, dog food purveyer in my community, she feels
people should know this animal to people parasite conveyance is
possible.
