Debbie,
My 4 mos old son has severe eczema, that also showed up around 1 month of
age. I did the dairy elimination, it got slightly better. I am only unable to
drink cows milk now-he breaks out every time I try it.
Eliminating laundry detergents and fabric softeners has made a large
difference. I now use castile soap to wash the whole family's laundry, and
vinegar as a fabric softener. (it also removes all the detergent residue ie
phosphates from the clothing).
Using Cetaphil skin cleanser instead of baby soap made a tremendous
difference as did switching to Eucerin lotion.
I was already using cloth diapers and wipes for economic and ecologic
reasons, however the one time I did use disposables he had a terrible
reaction. My Pediatrician has suggested that we dress him in nothing but
white or unbleached cotton, preferably organic.
I also lost a large amount of body fat while I was pregnant, I speculate that
he was exposed to a lot of toxins in utero which may have sensitized him to
more things out here.
I hope you can find some suggestions in this that may help your client with
her baby.
