Although I have not taken out a reference for LAM, from memory I believe
that LAM cannot be considered a reliable form of contraceptive if:
baby is over 6 mos old
baby is not exclusively (or very nearly) bf - e.g. he is taking solids or
using pacifier
mother's menses have returned
[As I said, I didn't pull these out, but I believe that LAM is surely
addressed in Lawrence; Riordan & Auerbach; Biancuzzo and other famous bf
texts.]

So the mom in question may in fact cease having periods again, and may in
fact have amenorrhea for years (some moms do but not most in my expereince),
however she cannot rely on LAM as her method of contraceptiion if she is
certain she would like to avoid pregnancy. She of course can continue the bf
and if she enjoys the amennorrhea she can HOPE that she will be infertile
but she is taking a chance. I would recommend to her that she use an
additonal form of birth control if she does not want a pregnancy, EVEN IF
her periods cease for a time again.
