Dear Yael,
The very same issue arises with childbirth and the need to surrender and let
go. During the prenatal period, I spend a great deal of time and focused
energy validating women where they are at and encouraging them to be all
those things they dislike, forgetful, sloppy, loose, clumsy, large. Most
women have a hard time with some of these aspects of pregnancy, some to a
greater degree than others. I celebrate them and encourage them to be lazy,
that forgetfulness is a sign that all is working perfectly, that huge is
beautiful because they are growing a person and that is a very big deal!
Same with breastfeeding. And the correspondence is remarkable, ease in
letting go, ease in birth, ease in birth, ease in breastfeeding.
I encourage relaxation and do one in every class. Yoga is good. Anything
that gets women out of their bodies and makes room for the resolution of
"stuff" that tends to build inside.
Mostly, permission and validation are what help, in my experience.
Sincerely,
Lisa Boisvert Mackenzie, Midwife
