Subject: Re nursing here, nursing there

I know i am behind here. Please forgive me.

I breastfed 7 month old baby 2 months ago while teaching childrens
church
3-5 year old class with the children's church director's 3 year old
daughter
watching and asking question. They have 4 kids, all bottle fed. She
asked me
if i had a bottle in there (sling, but you could see his face) I said
no.
She than asked if i had a sippy cup in there. I said no. She had a REAL
puzzled look on her face. I told her that mommies make milk for their
babies
and to ask her mom about. Her dad than came in the room."

Great education, Dawn. Let's revive the thread.
Churches are not always very BF-friendly places, but I have made some
friends in mine by BF openly. Last week it was my turn to lead the
service (during the summer we do lay-lead services) and I talked about
... guess what? Actually, I was talking about volunteering and the idea
of "service", but talked a lot about my involvement in LLL, as a
volunteer in a BF clinic etc. All the while, Naomi was wandering around,
cruising between her Daddy and me, until she started making those
familiar noises, and I picked her up and BF her, hardly missing a second
of my talk..
People seemed to like that I was walking the walk at the same time I was
talking the talk. I said a lot of things about the "guilt" thing and how
I was doing this to change the world because it sure needed changing.
Interestingly, the people I know who don't share my point of view didn't
seem to feel targeted. I don't know if this is a good thing (they're
still speaking to me) or a bad thing (I didn't make a strong enough
stand). What do you think?

Let's revive this thread, and can we talk some more about where we
*weren't* welcome to BF? Maybe that can give us some insight about what
the moms we are working with deal with more often than we think.
Jo-Anne
