There was something on the news a few weeks ago about a new policy for
women who will be giving birth while in prison. I don't recall if this was
a proposal or a done deal, but the idea was to keep the baby and mum
together for up to 4 years (hopefully the mum would be getting out by
then). The rooms set up for mum and baby were adjoining rooms, and I had
the impression it was 24 hour togetherness. I'll see what I can find. This
was in Canada, so it would be a federal program, but it seems this was a
pilot project.
