I used an SNS briefly with my twins -- both on at the same time, on a
nursing pillow. The tubes are still awkward because they get all tangled
up, but it can work. Also tried one at a time, but that has all the
inconveniences of single feedings, i.e. the other baby ALWAYS cries when
the first one is being fed, and the more "tools" are added the more that
is likely. Or use the SNS with one while the other one is latched on
"naked" i.e. no SNS. But two feeding devices would be discouraging.
Mothers often feel they don't have enough loving arms for twins and feel
awkward with an SNS, so however you do it, it will be hard for them and
they will need lots of support (emotional more than technical here). I
tell every mom of twins I work with, every time, that life will get
easier. It's true, but they need to hear this often.
Jo-Anne, who has one set of twins recovering from chicken pox, one set
peaking, and a miserably sick baby.
