Dear Ms. Rogers,

I was distressed to read of your company's marketing agreement
with an artificial baby milk (ABM) manufacturer. The promotion of
ABM to pregnant women is a violation of the World Health
Organization's Code for the Marketing of Breastmilk Substitutes
<http://www.infactcanada.ca/whocode/codeview.htm>. It is against
the Code because it is an unethical promotion of a unhealthy
behavior. Even in the US, even in middle-class homes, ABM-fed
babies are significantly less healthy as a group than breastfed
babies. The use of ABM instead of human milk is associated with
higher rates of infection, pneumonia, gastroenteritis, allergies,
asthma, SIDS, lymphoma, obesity, heart disease, ulcerative colitis,
and Crohn's disease, as well as lower intelligence scores and
school performance.

For this reason, I will not be shopping at Motherhood Maternity, A Pea
in the Pod, Mimi Maternity and Motherhood Maternity Outlet, and I will be
advising the hundreds pregnant women I come in contact with as a
breastfeeding counselor each year not to shop at your stores, until
you reverse this policy.
