In the last week Elshiva, Katherine and Kate have recommended interesting
books that I now plan to purchase. I have kept a running wish list on
Amazon.com (handy regardless of where you ultimately do your book shopping)
over the last year and made it known to my family before Christmas.
Consequently I am now the happy owner of some new books others on Lactnet
have recommended in the past. I hope my fellow Lactnuts will continue to
post about books they recommend to the group.
I'm now reading (thanks to a fellow Lactnut)and loving:
Mother Nature : Maternal Instincts and How They Shape the Human Species
by Sarah Blaffer
This book (thanks to a fellow Lactnut) is quite interesting:
Tongue Tie - From Confusion to Clarity: A Guide to the Diagnosis and
Treatment of Ankyloglossia by Carmen Fernando
Although mostly from the perspective of speech not breastfeeding it still is
quite valuable to us. I was fascinated with the pictures of older tongue
tied individuals and to read of their plight. Did you know excess saliva
drooling because of a tied tongue causes rashes around the mouth? The photo
of dental caries (can't tongue sweep clean the teeth if your tongue is tied)
would convince me to clip if I were a fence riding parent or HCP.
I loved this book!!!
The Red Tent by Anita Diamant
More about gender roles, breastfeeding, birth in another time and place
I found this title in the book club at http://www.familyplanet.org/
They are the folks responsible for that wonderful advertisement I wrote
about on Lactnet a little while ago. I keep getting their book club books
AFTER the discussion is over but so far they have both been great reads.
A great little book and plenty of food for thought about breastfeeding,
birth, gender roles in a time and place not my own ...another Familyplanet
book club book:
Bride Price a Novel by Buchi Emecheta
Familyplanet's current book club book, I haven't got this one yet:
Nectar in a Sieve" by Kamala Markandaya
I liked this book (thanks to a fellow Lactnut)so much that after I read this
one I found her web site and bought everything she has written:
Solving the Mystery of Breast Pain by Judy C. Kneece
