From conception to birth, growth RATE decreases continuously (growth occurs,
but the biggest proportional change in size occurs at the very start of
pregnancy, not at the end). It makes sense that the growth trajectory
continues to flatten in a smooth, continuous curve throughout the first
months and years of life, with a bump at puberty. So I agree, Barbara, that
the optimum growth rate for babies is probably robust at the start, and
deviations from this should arouse our attention.
