As a tribal member from Acoma Pueblo, New Mexico I personally have
wittnessed bottles and cans of fomula on top of infants graves.

Seeing these graves as a child, I often wondered if the babies died
BECAUSE of the bottles. To me, that was a scary thought.

As I grew, I realized that the bottles symbolized the needs of the
infant on his/her travel to the next world. Without going into too much
detail, Acoma tribal members will often be buried with items they might
need for their *next journey*

I know that all tribes and nations differ in their thoughts about the
deceased, so please understand this this is a personal observation and
NOT representative of all tribes and nations.
