Jay,
I am sorry this was your experience. I was very conscious of this medical
reality w/ my 3rd baby, as I had been in the position w/ laboring women to
have to protect them from induction and "augmentation" due to ruptured
membranes (or other bogus reasons). When my water broke at 6AM, I was not in
labor at all. I spent the day being taken care of by my family, my husband
took beautiful pictures of me and my other children, I sewed my baby a new
sling and one for my friend's baby, due 6 weeks later. In the back of my
mind, I felt so blessed to be birthing at home, where I could just wait for
my baby, who would not be born until 24 hours later. Active labor was short
and truly almost painless. It was my easiest, most powerful birth and nursing
was a breeze. I am always aware of how it could have been in the
non-trusting, fearful atmosphere of the birth "inducers and "augmenters" of
labor and "deliverers" of babies.
