I am a new subscriber to Lactnet, looking for resources and advice with
problem clients. I do home visits for newborns in a pediatric practice, home
phototherapy, lactation counselling, rent DME and supplies in northwest
suburban Chicago. I am part of a larger network for metropolitan Chicago.

I recently saw two mothers whose infants (term) had lost 20% of their
birthweight in the first week of life while seeming to nurse vigorously.
Both mothers are hypothyroid and take Synthroid daily. Frequent BF, pumping,
rest, fluids, etc., had no effect in building an adequate milk supply. The
PCP's declined to deal with the situation by testing thyroid hormone levels
or changing daily dose of Synthroid. One client was prompted to take a
course of Reglan to see if that would work. Have others had similar
experience or suggestions?
