1. Jensen, et al., Therapeutic Drug Monitoring, 19:236-239, 1997
Case Report: Infant received approximately 5% of maternal dose. Peak
concentration occurred 3 - 9 hours after drug intake by mother. No signs of
drug effects were seen in infant. No adverse or unusual behavior of the
baby was observed. Citalopram is 50% protein bound. No accumulation of the
drug took place in the infant.
2. Spigest, et. al., British J of Clinical Pharmacology, 44:295-298, 1997
Two subjects: Relative dose received by infants 0.7 - 5.9% of maternal
dose. The studied showed that the dose received was close to that of
fluoxetine, and higher than that for fluvoxamine, paroxetine, and
sertraline. The mothers observed no adverse effects in the infants.
3. Schmidt, et. al., Biol Psychiatry, 47: 164-165, 2000
Case Report: Drug treatment with 40 mg/day, Infant serum level of 12.7
ng/mL. Dose received by infant 5.4% of maternal dose. Infant had "uneasy"
sleep which was normalized when the dose was halved which indicated that the
drug effects on the child could have been avoided if the dose had not been
increased to 40 mg/day.
Hope this helps.
