Barbara,
Unless there is a problem with either the mother or baby (I'm thinking of
something like a heart defect in a newborn or severe jaundice that causes the
baby to shut down, or a baby who's not gaining) it is really best to let the
baby decide how long a feeding takes. Every baby is different and they have
different abilities and capacities sometimes from one feed to the next the
times will be very different. I don't want moms to think clock - I want them
to think baby. I tell the mom that the baby will let
her know when she's finished. If they are looking for a number of minutes I
will sometimes ask if they put a stopwatch on the table when they eat dinner.
