I know I am a little behind but wanted to comment on Amy's post.  She said
that one of the reasons she felt this mom was making oxytocin was her
awareness of braxton-hicks contractions during her pregnancy.
The uterus is a very massive work of muscles and all muscles contract.  Our
uterus contracts when we are not pregnant but we are not aware of it because
it is well below our pelvic bones.  The contractions that produce labor are
different because they effect the lower uterine segment and dilates the
cervix.  These contractions require oxytocin.
This mom may make some oxytocin but I just wanted to clarify about
braxton-hicks contractions.  There is still so much that is not known about
labor.  Sorry this is not breastfeeding related.
