I've written before about my observations as a home care nurse in a program
where babies were discharged in 24 hours (after minimal mother/baby
separation) and seen by home care nurse in next 24. I usually saw mild
decreases in weight on day 2, with baby at or above birth weight on day
4(when we saw them again). If baby was still below birthweight on day 4 it
was a big red flag to "fix the breastfeeding." I have a pile of papers in
a box in the attic and I know I should have written it up, but this was in
93-94 and is ancient history now. Sincerely, Pat in SNJ
